Script Analysis in Transactional Analysis :
Script is an unconscious life plan, that we ourselves have created when we were too young, say, less than 6 years old. We have written this life plan based on our early childhood experiences, and it got reinforced by our parental influences. Further, it got justified by subsequent events that had happened in our lives.
Now we are under the spell of this plan or there is an inner compulsion to act it out and relentlessly move towards our predetermined chosen alternative.
We have created this Script when we did not have the maturity to think or decide. We made all our decisions purely based on our feelings. We needed to survive in our family environment. We were getting educated in our ‘Mommy-Daddy University’ to be good citizens in the community, from their points of view.
We had learnt to exhibit the emotions that were permitted by them. We had learnt to avoid anything and everything that they had prohibited. We had learnt to make our parents happy by doing what they liked. We avoided doing whatever made them unhappy or resulted in a punishment.
We had taken a life position that either ‘I am not OK, or others are not OK, or all of us are not OK’.
Had we taken the life position, ‘I am OK, Others are OK’ life would have been wonderful. Hence, wherever our Script works, let us keep it, sustain it and develop it.
But Transactional Analysis focuses more attention on Scripts that do not work and that act as our mental blocks, preventing us from being happy or successful.
Our scripts are like movie scripts. They have a beginning, a middle and an end. Beginning has already been made. We are in the middle and moving towards our end – yes, our goals !
Our script could be a Winner script or a Loser script or a Non-winner script. It could have been an adventure, an epic, a saga, a comedy or a romantic comedy or a thriller. It also could have been a tragedy, a sob story, a soap opera or a horror story. Or it could have been dull, boring or an irritant.
And now we have the choice to choose, we can choose to change the process in the 'here and now' as well as the ending - the way we want it to be.
This course is all about identifying our life scripts and understanding that it is possible for us to change our course, the direction of our course. By using the methodologies given in the course, we can definitely change our scripts positively to suit our own specific needs. We can be Winners. We can make ourselves, 'the Frogs into Princes and Princesses' !
